Tetiana Illiakhova’s Exhibition “CRACKELURE OF TIME” Held in Kyiv
The Triptych Art Gallery in Kyiv has concluded a solo exhibition by the renowned Ukrainian painter, graphic artist, and master of monumental textiles, Tetiana Illiakhova. The exposition “CRACKELURE OF TIME” ran from May 30 to June 12, drawing a circle of intellectual art lovers, critics, and fellow artists.
Executed in a distinct neo-modern style, the artist’s series of works immersed viewers in a subtle reflection on the fragility of existence, the continuity of history, and the philosophy of decay and rebirth. The project is titled “Crackelure of Time.”
Crackelure refers to the network of fine cracks that forms over time or is artificially created on a layer of paint or varnish in paintings, ceramics, and decorative objects.
I have figured out how to achieve the visual effect of crackelure specifically on fabric. However, this technique is complex and even somewhat toxic: it requires spending quite a long time breathing in the fumes of hot wax, paraffin, and aniline dyes. That is why the subjects I spend so much time with must truly resonate with me! I am inspired by nature and gardens of paradise. Similar motifs were used in traditional French tapestries — millefleurs…
Background Note: Tetiana Illiakhova is an artist with a strong academic background, whose name is inextricably linked to the history of Ukrainian contemporary art. At one time, she was a prominent figure of the legendary Kyiv squat “Paris Commune,” which laid the foundation for the new artistic wave in Ukraine.
Once again, the exposition demonstrated the artist’s unique ability to work freely with both classical form and monumental meanings, transforming inner experiences into sophisticated visual codes.
Although the exhibition has officially concluded, the artist’s works can still be viewed on her official page on Instagram.
