thesteinstudio presents an international performing arts program
The artists will explore a diverse range of themes: reinterpreting the philosophy of Walter Benjamin and Les Kurbas, seeking alternative representations of traditional folk dance, and creating a speculative cultural institution that blends the aesthetics of burlesque, club culture, and theatrical spectacle.
Curated by researcher Yaryna Shumska, two days of the Kyiv program at thesteinstudio space will focus on the phenomenon of Lviv performance art. Visitors can expect performances by Volodymyr Kaufman, Andriy Helytovych, Mykhailo Barabash, and Anastasiia Prozora, as well as a lecture and presentation on the history of performance art in Lviv.
While last year’s program focused exclusively on Ukrainian performers, this year it has expanded into an international edition.
International participants include:
Rachel Tess (USA/Sweden) — will present a body-based work and share her experience curating Swedish-Ukrainian performance residencies;
Ivana Müller (Croatia/France) — will present a delegated performance and give an online lecture on the possibilities and boundaries of participation;
Florian Malzacher (Germany) — will lead a presentation and Q&A session on the specifics of curatorial practice in performance art.
Admission to all events is free upon prior registration.
